      In 2017 the world bank reported that Kenya generates $1.6 billion while Tanzania generates $2.3 billion per year.   International tourism, receipts (current US$).

      Well I wouldn’t conclude that one country is losing to another, both countries have unique experiences to offer, however from an eagles eye point of view Tanzania has so much more to offer regarding tourist adventures.

      And from a marketing point of view, Kenya is doing better than its neighbor Tanzania. Kenyans tend to be more liberal and easily adapt to the tourists’ way. On the contrary, Tanzanians tend to be conservative and as a tourist you’ll have no choice but to conform to their lifestyle. They don’t adjust to the tourist way. The use of Kiswahili in Tanzania & English in Kenya is a sure proof of that.

      In retrospect I Actually think that if Tanzanians were flexible and as liberal as the Kenyans, they would realize more earnings than what they are earning now. Both countries will continue to bring in more revenues in this industry.

      If you haven’t visited any of them, check them out definitely!

      Here’s is why i think this is true; Security

      • There is a perception that Tanzania is safer than kenya. This has been fuelled by multiple high profile incidents which have scared tourists. i.e the Ducit attack, Westgate mall attack, the kidnapping of tourists by pirates in the North coast and prevalent riots in the Nairobi slums.

      Offers

      • The other reason is that Tanzania offers great packages at very affordable rates, The Serengeti (amazing), The Ngorogoro Crater (several of my former collgues rate it as one of the best places they have ever been), Killimanjaro (Mt Kenya is a great climb too, but Killi is the one everyone has heard of.), Zanzibar (Beaches, culture and nightlife. It just has a better reputation than Mombassa).

      Pricing

      • Another point to note is that Kenyan hotels accommodation is overpriced!

      It is possible that Kenya’s tourism industry is facing competition from Tanzania. This could be due to a variety of factors, including Tanzania’s more diverse range of tourist attractions, such as the Serengeti National Park and Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as its relatively lower cost of travel compared to Kenya. Additionally, the Tanzanian government has been investing heavily in tourism infrastructure, which has helped to attract more visitors to the country.

      In my Opinion;

      1. Tanzania has much newer hotels than Kenya at the moment.
      2. In the event of information technology has exposed better information about tourism in Tanzania than before.
      3. Tour companies advertise themselves better now than during socialism era where by the government did all.
      4. 35% of land in tanzania is dedicated to animal sanctuary either as a national park or game reserve. This potential is now being realised.
